Inclusive Skating Coaching courses are SQA / Qualification Scotland approved and certified. Inclusive Skating is an approved SQA / Qualification Scotland centre. The Coaching course and Coaching Award Course for Working with persons with Disabilities provides UCAS points to successful candidates. Courses also map across to CIMPSA Professional Standards and the National and European Coaching Framework

There are many training opportunities available which provide a progressive framework for coach and volunteer education and training.

If you wish to participate in any courses please complete a course enrolment form (see resources in the attached list) and send to contact@inclusiveskating.org 

All courses are supported by the Inclusive Skating Learning Platform and Virtual Zoom sessions. Everyone registered with Inclusive Skating is given access to the Learning Platform and given the opportunity to register for the Zoom sessions. Check out the latest Virtual Activities Calendar for the current schedule. Registration links are sent by e-mail to everyone registered with Inclusive Skating.

Courses are organised on a modular basis allowing for maximum flexibility and career progression. The modular process is ideal for those who are working, have other responsibilities or are studying and are seeking to participate on a flexible basis.

Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme - Inclusive Skating is a Licensed Organisation and provides the full range of DofE activities for Skills, Physical, Residential Camps, adapted Expeditions and Volunteering for The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. All Skating Skills courses may be used by DofE Participants for their skill activities at Bronze, Silver and Gold Level. Participants who are registered directly with Inclusive Skating for their DofE Award are given priority access to the full range of courses and volunteer opportunities.

1Safety Training - Inclusive Skating Accredited Safety Advisor

We strongly encourage all volunteers and participants to complete the Inclusive Skating Safety Course as a first step in your journey to improve your skills. The Safety Course provides Accredited Inclusive Skating Advisor Status. The safety course provides essential knowledge on the Inclusive Skating safety policy. The course is a suitable skill qualification for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards Scheme or if you wish to volunteer with Inclusive Skating.

The Inclusive Skating Accredited Safety Advisor course is available on-line and can be completed to do in your own time. Participants who require additional support can access the course with the additional support of zoom sessions or individual sessions. The Inclusive Skating Safety Policy and Inclusive Skating Safeguarding materials should be regarded as training materials for this course. The online volunteer safety course is based on the Inclusive Skating Safety Policy.  See the related resources on this page for a free copy of the Safety Policy that is available to download now.

This course is free for registered volunteers and coaches and was funded by the People's Project National Lottery Grant awarded to Inclusive Skating. 

This funding also enabled Inclusive Skating to provide an Inclusive Skating Moodle (Learning Management System) which hosts the online safety course and other courses. https://inclusiveskating.moodle.tituslearning.com/login/index.php

The Safety Course is also CIMPSA endorsed - 5 CPD points

 

Taking the online safety course

Become a member of Inclusive Skating and request access to the course by completing the course enrolment form and sending to contact@inclusiveskating.org

Once access to the online Inclusive Skating Moodle is provided self enrol on the Accredited Inclusive Skating Advisor Course.

Your user name on the online course will be your membership e-mail address.

An automatically generated password will be generated for you. You can change this if you wish.

Please do the course on your computer and where you have good Wi-Fi access if at all possible. If you have any difficulties please contact us again. We will be having online tutorials and assistance for those with poor or no wi-fi etc.

After you have read through the materials and watched the videos and taken the quiz you will be able to download a certificate. You can access the quiz by going to the side panel and selecting the next steps tab. There will be 2 options. One for the course and one for the certificate. You may have to scroll back up to the top to get to the side panel. The quiz can be taken as many times as you wish. Your highest score will be the one that matters!

Good luck with the course. It provides a wide range of information about Inclusive skating and our policies. Taken together these seek to ensure the safety of our community and provide a useful start on your journey to improve your knowledge and skills and the following courses.

2. The Leader Course - Essential knowledge on Inclusive Skating badge program and essential technical and practical volunteer skills. Ideal skill qualification for  the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Awards Scheme and especially useful if you're learning how to coach skating or wish to volunteer with Inclusive Skating. This course is covered over 20 hours and is assessed by participation.

3. The Activity Leader Course - This course combines the Leader course with a competence assessment of delivery of the skills learnt during the leader course. The Activity Leader will demonstrate the ability to supervise the session and manage risk assessments

4. The Activity Leader Course Interdependent with Inclusive Activity Leader- This course combines the Leader course with an on skates competence assessment of delivery of the skills learnt during the leader course. Participants will be asked to demonstrate competence to skate and provide coaching at Leader level with the support of an Activity Leader who will supervise the session and manage risk assessments. This course is suitable for participants with some limitations who require additional support for their coaching activities and this support can be provided by an Inclusive Activity Leader or more qualified coach.

5. The Assistant Coach Course - This provides the Sports Coaching : Inclusive Skating Assistant Coach Qualification. The course provides essential knowledge on Inclusive Skating coaching whilst working with the support of a qualified skating coach. The course is suitable for those seeking skill qualification for  the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards Scheme and especially useful if you're learning how to coach or wish to volunteer with Inclusive Skating. This maps to CIMPSA Assistant Coach Standard . This course has now been endorsed by CIMPSA as meeting the CIMSPA professional standards for Assistant Coaches and also provides CIMSPA - 10 CPD points. Importantly this course is an approved SQA/ Qualifications Scotland course at Level 5 and provides 6 SCQF credits that map to 60 hours of training and education and meets the EQF level 3 standard.  

This course requires participants to demonstrate the ability to support the training of skaters with and without additional needs during a training session. All assistant coaches provide coaching with the support of a qualified skating coach at all times.

This course is £500 subject to availability of volunteer support. 

 

6.  Inclusive Skating Community Coaching Qualification - This new course combines the Assistant Coaching Qualification with the Activity Leader course and additional assessment. Participants will be asked to demonstrate competence to supervise sessions independently. This course is intended for participants who seek to coach inclusive skaters during a short series of sessions and provide a safe environment for all participants. The plan do review process applies to each session over a 6 to 8 week mesocycle such as a Learn to skate programme.

7. Inclusive Skating Community Coaching Qualification Interdependent with Inclusive Activity Leader- This new course combines the Assistant Coaching Qualification with the Activity Leader course and additional assessment. Participants will be asked to demonstrate competence to skate and provide coaching with the support of an Activity Leader who will supervise the session and manage risk assessments. This course is suitable for participants with some limitations who require additional support for their coaching activities and this can be provided by an Inclusive Activity Leader.

8. The Inclusive Skating Coach Course -leading to the Sports Coaching : Inclusive Skating Coaching Qualification-  This course requires participants to demonstrate the ability to plan, do and review the training of skaters with and without additional needs over a year macrocycle.

This course is SQA/ Qualifications Scotland approved and also meets the CIMSPA professional standards and provides UCAS points for successful candidates. This course maps to two CIMPSA standards - the Coach Standard and the Working Inclusively (working with Disabled People) Standard. Importantly this course is an approved SQA course at Level 6 and provides 24 credits that map to 240 hours of training and education. Accordingly, it also provides 21 UCAS points to successful candidates and provides 24 SCQF credits and maps to EQF level 4.

This course is intended for participants who seek to coach performance level skaters who are training over a macrocycle. The course provides essential knowledge on Inclusive Skating coaching and is available once the Assistant Coach Course has been completed successfully. 

This course is £2000 subject to availability of volunteer support. 

9. The Inclusive Skating Award Course leading to the Sports Coaching : Inclusive Skating Supporting persons with Disabilities Award Coaching Qualification - This provides the Inclusive Skating essential knowledge on Inclusive Skating coaching while working with disabled people and maps to the relevant CIMPSA Standard for Working with persons with a disability. Importantly this course is an approved SQA course at Level 6 and provides 5 credits that map to 50 hours of training and education with 5 SCQF credits and meets the EQF level 4 standard. Accordingly, it also provides 7 UCAS points to successful candidates.

Candidates must be qualified coaches to be accepted onto this course and is available to coaches with recognised prior learning. Coaches whose coaching qualification is comparable to the community coach level and who have not covered macrocycle planning over a year long macrocycle may benefit from taking the Inclusive Skating Coaching course prior to embarking on the Award course.

This course is £750 subject to availability of volunteer support and recognition of prior learning as a coach. 

10. Senior Coaching Award - The Senior Coaching Standard requires that candidates must have provided evidence that they can independently lead sessions and competitions and entire small-scale programmes (or parts of larger programmes). They have also provided evidence that they can manage and/ or support the development of other coaches and support staff.

11. Master Coaching Award - The Master/ Head Coaching Standard requires that candidates must provide evidence that they can independently lead sessions and competitions and entire medium- and large-scale programmes and manage or support the development of other coaches and support staff. In addition they have provided evidence that they can plan, deliver and review coaching sessions over multi-annual seasons or cycles.

Coach and Volunteer Qualification, Continuing Education and Continuing Professional Development

 Inclusive Skating is a member of CIMPSA and provides a full range of courses as a CIMPSA Training Partner.

Safeguarding courses are also provided on a biannual basis and are part of all coaching courses.

Coaches and volunteers should demonstrate a threshold standard and a continuing competence to undertake the activities that they are supporting. It is the process and effect of learning activities that is important. Coaches and Volunteers are expected to review their learning needs and address them through training. Any activity that has been undertaken to address learning needs can count towards threshold and continuing competence. Coaches and volunteers should record their training on the Inclusive Skating portal.

Inclusive Skating now provides a volunteer and coach education training platform and regular courses. Online courses and seminars provide coaches and volunteer activities supporters with training and support.

Inclusive Skating now provides its own Leader course, Assistant Coaching Course, Coaching course and an Award course for coaches who are already qualified that covers working with persons with a disability. These courses are SQA approved and Inclusive Skating is an approved SQA centre. The Assistant Coaching course is CIMPSA endorsed. Zoom links for the virtual sessions are e-mailed directly to skaters and volunteers registered with Inclusive Skating. The iCoachKids Free online courses are a free online recommended resources. The iCoach Kids is available on the Inclusive Skating platform and many of the activities are incorporated into the Leader, Inclusive Skating Assistant Coaching and Coach Courses. The iCoachKids Free online courses are one of our recommended resources and are available for self-enrolment on the moodle platform. https://inclusiveskating.moodle.tituslearning.com/login/index.php

All British Ice Skating licensed coaches are recognised as are coaches qualified through City and Guilds (Skate Excellence) and other suitable NVQ qualifications.

Inclusive Skating recommends continuing competence all coaches and volunteers should keep their learning needs under continual review and address those needs accordingly. CPD and coach qualification may therefore occur by any relevant means. This includes the following: 

a) attending or taking relevant on-line courses provided by the ICCE, UK Coaching, British Ice Skating, British Federation of Roller Skating, Skate Excellence,  EduCare, ISU, Inclusive Skating and all accredited Institutions of Higher Learning. 

b) conference attendance and participation as a speaker including those provided by the ICCE, IPC, UK Coaching and other relevant Conference providers.

c) preparing and delivering training courses, provision of training and mentoring for other coaches and volunteers, research, development and implementation of technical standards and participation in Committees and Governing Bodies.

Please record all activities and qualifications on the Inclusive Skating Membership platform and maintain a personal coaching log of all their activities. Traditionally it was recommended that coaches and volunteers undertake 8 hours of continuing professional development per year and keep a record of their CPD.

First Aid

All coaches and volunteer activities supporters must be suitably qualified in First Aid. Recommended courses include St. Andrews and St. Johns First Aid courses for Emergency First Aid at Work or in sport and must include CPR training. All coaches and volunteers should record their current First Aid qualifications on the Inclusive Skating Platform.

Inclusive Skating Officials -  Registration is available for Judge Training courses.  The relevant course for judges is the Inclusive Skating Skills for Coaching and Judging. Additional courses on more specialised roles will continue to be added to the list of courses offered. E.g. Further Information on General Policies

All the volunteer activities supporters are trained to the same standard of safeguarding, first aid, health and safety and good practice as coaches. All coaches and volunteers are required to have threshold competence for all tasks. Prior training and education is recognised and additional training and education is provided by Inclusive Skating for many activities. 

Please refer to the Inclusive Skating Safeguarding information and training materials available on this website. All volunteers and coaches should understand these materials and demonstrate a duty of care that ensures the safety, health and well being of all participants at all times. 

All coaches and volunteers are expected to follow the code of Conduct for Officials and Inclusive Skating policies (including safeguarding and safety). PVG/DBS checks are undertaken and are a legal requirement in many situations. Insurance is available from Sportscover and under the Inclusive Skating Coaching License.
