Inclusive Skating Reiterates its Commitment to Inclusion with New Mission Statement
Inclusive Skating is excited to announce its new mission statement. As our charity continues to grow and welcome new members, we believe that it’s important to underline the values that drive our mission and clarify the extent of our inclusive ethos.
In our pursuit of equality and diversity in public participation in sport, Inclusive Skating aims to create opportunities for skaters with any form of disability or impairment. In the pursuit of equitable participation, we also acknowledge the critical importance of supporting the inclusion of diverse groups of skaters within our community.
Skating has historically been a sport exclusively for non-disabled athletes, and has also excluded participation based on race, ethnicity, age, sex, sexual orientation and gender identity. Inclusive Skating rejects the explicit or implicit culture of exclusion from sport on any such basis and is committed to opening the sport to all.
An example of this commitment can be found in our policies toward LGBTQ+ skaters. Inclusive Skating offers competition and training pathways for same-sex skating couples and welcomes transgender athletes to participate in competition as well.
We firmly believe that true inclusion does not exclude anyone who wishes to participate in the thrill of skating and welcome all with open arms.
If you are interested in helping us to continue to create opportunities for all in our skating community, please consider joining our wonderful group of volunteers.
