Inclusive Skating World Championships

Inclusive Skating held its annual World Championships this past week in London, in the beautiful new facilities at Lee Valley Ice Centre. Competitors skated over 90 performances over the course of the week. Twelve nations were represented at this year’s championships, with spectacular performances across all disciplines and levels. Many skaters achieved personal best scores and delighted audiences and judges alike. Both the technical difficulty and artistic expression were notable in the skaters’ routines with clear evidence of immense training and hard work leading up to these championships. Well done skaters for your dedication, effort, and commitment.

Across the five days of training and competition, skaters commented on the wonderful atmosphere of the event and were appreciative of the immense support from the community. Some skaters were supported by IS coaches and some had the opportunity to have lessons with the friendly coaches at the Lee Valley Ice Centre.

We would like to express our gratitude to the volunteers who made this event possible. The families, parents, carers, facilitators, coaches, judges, announcers, results team, camera operators, rink management team, and venue staff are what enabled IS to create this opportunity for the community. Gavin Pearce and Simon Hemmings from Better UK warmly welcomed our skaters and assisted greatly throughout the entire week. We also were thrilled to welcome the outstanding Lee Valley Orion Synchro Team who performed a stunning exhibition to open the Official Ceremony for the event; the team, coached by Chrissy Richards, kindly supported these championships in the midst of their own intense training for an international event next week. We wish them loads of success.

We would also like to give a special thank you to our celebrity event ambassador, BBC Radio Star and Dancing on Ice Runner-Up Adele Roberts who graciously donated her time to support our Tuesday medal ceremony. Her powerful speech inspired our skaters and we are hugely appreciative for her kindness, compassion and warmth. She is currently in the process of releasing her new book, Personal Best: From Rock Bottom to the Top of the World, and still found the time to come support these wonderful athletes.

Results can be found on our website in the resource centre and videos will be uploaded and shared across social media in due course.

As London 2024 comes to an end we believe a quote from Paddington Bear reflects our perspective on the event: “ In London, everyone is different, and that means anyone can fit in.”

We can’t wait to welcome you to our upcoming events where we are sure there will be more smiles, cheers, and tears of joy.
