This highly anticipated event within the Inclusive Skating community in NSW Australia squeaked in by literally minutes on 26th June, 2021
Deb Gunning LCC Sports Complex Manager/Co-ordinator called to me around 3pm as I was walking past the gym seeing Gladys (NSW Premier)on the TV screens & I was thinking negative.
Deb’s words were “we are in lockdown as of 6pm we will get the Showcase in”. SO excited so nervous but we did go ahead.
Of 18 skaters signed up to perform 15 turned up plus a guest from Ice Zoo to see our rink & our skaters. Only LCC skaters signed up for this Showcase despite the invitation going out to all;I am sure that in time others from different rinks will sign up – early days
TWO!! LCC Directors came to watch (Tony & Lucky were very complimentary on the Inclusive Skating Community efforts).
All the skaters performed well, for many it was their first performance so there were nerves but we coaches managed this with the assistance of carers.
The social skate after performances was bitter sweet – our last chance to skate for some time. All the Inclusive Skaters made the most of this as did the coaches. It was lovely to see my young colleagues cut loose have fun both with the skaters & amongst themselves – lifts, pair spins. I didn’t manage a dance with the boys but when we get back on the ice this is a mission for me!
